This app looks and performs very well. It is great for thinking and hammering out rough copies. I only wish that it could open and save *.rtf, have a print function, and that it would use OS X’s built-in spelling checker. Overall, though, a very good buy.
It took a long time to get the idea how to use this application for real work. I bought it cause I really like Cathode application made by these guys. Awesome engine and it allows to setup text in vast beautiful analog ways. I’ve got a need to watch helpful information in text documents and to work in another program to apply the information from this document. And I use two displays for this. And if you looking at the black text on white screen for long time it can damage your eyes and you can distort your contrast perception. Especially if you work at deep night. Bright text on black screen of this text editor is really gorgeous and my eyes aren’t damaged. I want to see better support for importing of tables from other editors by cmd+c and cmd+v.
I am very impressed. This simulates to a "T" the environment of lost decades. Reminds me of my old IBB Kaypro from 1981 and my Commodore Vic20 and 64. I love that you can change the background reflection to your own room via the webcam. I also love that you have enabled preferences with every convievable control from curvature to FPS. Ive wanted an ap like this for a long time - Ive seen another but it only worked for the terminal. Best App Ive gotten in a long time. THANKS! Glad to be the first reviewer. Danny, Tucson AZ
Ive been looking for exactly this for years. Now I dont have to buy a nostalgic (old) green phosphor monitor and figure out how to plug it into my MacBook. Im not sure its actually useful, but its still fabulous.
So cool, but what happened when I decided to write beyond, say, 3000 characters? I want to give due credit to the developers, and I have been testing this app regularly, making the occasional memo on Blinky and saving it just fine. But its a good thing that I had saved each paragraph to the same file, while testing the software, before I finished a huge wad of text, because... Something went awry when I tried to write the same long block of text, without all the obsessive saving. I was not able to save the whole lot. The file menu would not drop down at this point. This doesnt happen often with the MacStore Apps I have downloaded, but the glitch came as a surprise. Please advise.
Would it be possible to allow the iSight camera to act as a live reflection in the screen? And typing in RTF format with text that wraps around ASCII images would radical—like a BBS! (Not sure if thats even possible, though.)
Great little app, though I like to use it with no curvature, high transparency, and a slight retrace. Its kind of like a funky TextEdit. Really, guys, you need to implement spellcheck into it, and an simple export feature. Even then, love it.
awsome app make more retro apps make some for devloping apps to
Probably the most beautiful app Ive ever seen. Definitely worth $5. Theres just a few things it needs to work out: - Automatically save theme settings - Little glitchy opening and closing files sometimes (only seems to be on the first open - closing and restarting the program makes it work thereon out) - Reflection image doesnt stay set. I have to set it each time I open the program. Rather annoying bug. Still love the program. Its going to replace my other minimalist writing apps.
The editor is beautiful and fun to use. It’s extremely customizable, just like the other app by this developer “Cathode”. You can choose everything ranging from the scan line strength to the text color to the amount of distortion. The editor is very fun to use, though I wouldn’t write “War and Peace” on it, the actual text editor capabilities are slim, though I believe that is intentional. For a quick note or a few shell scripts, this app gives you that extra bit of flair, and is well worth the 3$. My main complaint is that the app seems to be very power intensive. Once I open the app, the fan on my 2014 MBP (13’) starts spinning at max, and I can feel the computer get noticeably warmer. I understand there’s a lot of graphically-intensive operations going on, but I feel there’s no good reason why my simple text editor gets my computer all worked up. Also a reason why I wouldn’t write anything too long in this editor. Other than that, I don’t have any major complaints.
The single big flaw is that the standard ⌥⌫ (Option-Delete) shortcut for deleting one word doesn’t work. I use this all the time in other apps. I also wish there was at least a Find command. In any case, ^⌘F, not the current ⌘F, probably should be the shortcut for Full Screen instead. Other than those things, this is spectacularly good.
I bought this app along with Cathode, and I love them! These two apps bring back so many memories of the “good old days” of working on flickery monitors and command line coding. The presets are varied and a lot of fun to play around with, and making them fully customizable is an extra treat. Such a great idea to take this huge leap backwards in UI. Brilliant!
It’s just…different. It seems simple to make.
This is F**KIN awsome, great job guys, i Love this app! The customization panel is great, trust me, youll be able to make it look exactly as you want, even the reflection! its crazy! Give it a try, its just for fun tho!
Goth, industrial, post-punk, and garage lyrics can all be styled for your fx and photocopied ‘zine with this app, just like you did it for college comparative modern media lit class. For that it is awesome. I really groove on the simplicity and the irreverence of Blinky (like Cathode, too.) It’s just fun and it makes writing short pieces fun. It could potentially come in super handy for animators or artists/designers that need to make period graphics, so that is just extra bonus. The webcam feature is well worth twice the price!
Only needs one more thing IMO: chunky mechanical keyboard sound effects.
I can’t believe this is a free app, the nostalgia is almost priceless! If you never had to work with monocrhome terminals, just imagine the joy of using a PIP Boy from Fallout as your monitor, and you’ll begin to appreciate how awesome this app is.
This is just too much fun. The ‘View/Degauss’ menu option says it all. I’m very impressed the myriad of Themes and font options. Throw in the color control and you can really tweak together some custom UIs that fit your style. The details such as the poor refresh rate on scrolling, etc. make this app way more than I had expected from a Free download. Can’t wait to use this on my commuter rail ride to perplex my fellow passengers ;-) Well done.
AWSOME ! I love this app with all my heart thank you for making this! You rock !
